Encouraging employee participation and getting tangible results within the workplace...

In November 2010, with hopes of amplifying in-house participation and company morale, the creative staff at Backe concocted three individual "Task Forces." These groups, were assigned various responsibilities and consisted of Team Good Times, who plan parties and fun-filled post-workday events, and Team Good Samiritan, who keep their eyes peeled for events where the company could donate money or be a sponsor of.

I volunteered to be an actively participating member of Team Good Vibrations - our goal to increase brand awareness through social media implementation, keep the company website up-to-date, and squarely maintain consistent buzz and yes, good vibes, within the office. Aside from resurrecting our facebook page from the ashes and creating a blog, an idea of mine of utilizing the giant, surfrboard-capped blackboard cam e to life as the Backe Blackboard Bonanza. Each Friday we propose a fun, creative task to be drawn or written on the blackboard. This is just a simple way to inject a little free-style creativity into the day. We want to get people thinking, moving, talking and using our creative space. It's a chance to inspire each other and interact in an easygoing setting. Employees are encouraged to be open, expressive and have fun with it. Occasionally there are even prizes involved!

The inagural bonanza, in light of the upcoming Valentine's Day, challenged employees to write the message(s) they thought should be on those little candy hearts that you get on and around every happy couple's favorite holiday. The messages had to be short enough to fit inside the provided heart shapes, so staying inside the lines--literally, but certainly not figuratively - was a requirement!

President's Day Black Board Bonanza Activity
In light of President's Day, if you could elect anyone to be the next U.S. President, (real or fictional, dead or alive) who would it be? Sketch his or her face in one of the silhouettes on the blackboard—and don't forget to name them.
Paper Cranes for Japan Relief Fun
Backe employees created origami cranes, a symbol of peace, good luck, and longevity in the Japanese culture, collecting donations for the relief effort. Each crane donates one dollar, complete with the sponsor's name or a message to the people of Japan. The goal is to fold 1,000 cranes and collect $1,000 in the span of a week. It is customary to fold a thousand paper cranes when making a special wish.
Duffy's Menu Item Black Board Bonanza Activity
Duffy's, the on-site cafeteria, is running out of ideas, and they're stumped as to what "Today's Special" menu item is going to be. So they have come to Backe and asked if we would be oh so kind as to use our creative muscles and help them come up with new menu item names. Only thing is, the name must consist of a US state or city, and an onomatopoeia. Bonus points if you provide a description of the item.
Backe Facebook Page
Another responsibility of Team Good Vibrations was to create, and maintain Backe's presensce in the soical media world via Facebook, a Wordpress blog a LinkedIn page, and always keep on the lookout for more ways to do so.

Letter To An Old Coworker
A coworker that parted ways with our company, slyly left behind his Huxtable-esque sweater and imitation gold watch that was used in an Avalon Flooring commercial spot that the agency shot. We decided to mail it back to him at his new agency, along with this card of us all creatively wearing it.
